So What is the ULTIMATE SETUP?

The Ultimate Setup is a labor of love for Don Warren, who has worked with some of the best guitar techs in the business and has been helping breathe new life into many player's treasured instruments, as well as tweaking numerous brand new boutique guitars to achieve the ultimate playability, tone, and performance.

As the owner of Warrenguitars, Don has created what many consider to be the finest electric guitars available today ( Vintage Guitar Magazine Review ) ( Watch Arlen Roth Playing his Signature Model Warren Guitar ),

Actual Warren Guitar owners have consistently sung the praises of his guitar line (Arlen with his Flame Signature Warren ), and have replaced many vintage and modern instruments with his creation.

Now…Don has decided to bring the one aspect of the guitar making process he enjoys the most to the public to be performed on any electric guitar. Because of his intense fascination with the playability and synergistic energies of each part of the guitars performance, Don is offering his Expertise to you the guitar lover who wants the very most of his or her instrument, and is offering it at what he calls the "labor of love" price, which is unheard of in the industry today.

Your setup will include:

NECK INSPECTION - Your neck will be inspected to determine the actual accuracy of the fretboard itself.

FRET LEVELING - Will be perfectly leveled using a variety of time honored and modern methods to ensure a truly accurate and consistent playing surface. You will be amazed at what your neck feels like when we complete this task.

FRET DRESSING - The frets will be crowned and polished to provide the best feel and playability possible

PICKUP HEIGHT - Here is where my anal retentive side takes over. Don’t make the mistake of taking this task lightly. If done properly, this can make one of the biggest impacts on the sound of you instrument. I take painstaking care in making the tiniest adjustments and listening to each note and set each pickup height to exactly the place that brings the guitars tonal characteristics to life. When that is done, I set out to make the pickups balance in volume with one another to create the smoothes possible transition from tone to tone without volume jumps or loss. Again…this can be set to taste if you prefer a certain volume differential.

INTONATION - There are a variety of intonation methods that are popular among luthiers. While some of them are quite good, I have never relied on just one to get the job done. Over the years, I have come up with a method that has afforded me the luxury of having many favorable reviews on how well my guitars play in tune without the use of a special nut.

ACTION / PLAYABILITY - The string heights will be set to the lowest possible position (unless otherwise requested) to allow for ease of playing without any buzz or fretting out.

SET BRIDGE - Radius the bridge saddles to work in conjunction with the fretboard radius and create the most natural transition from one string to the next.

BALANCE TREMOLO  Ensure the best possible return to neutral with the bridge screws. Simply state your preference for a spongy, standard or firm feel and let me know if you are a heavy tremolo user, if you like an upward pull or set flat. If not certain, I will set it for the best standard setting as was intended by the manufacturer.

NUT - Inspect nut The nut will be inspected for correct downward angle and slot depth and shape. This can improve the tone of the open strings, help promote a more ccurate and comfortable action, improve tuning stability and intonation to name but a few things.

In addition to the above, each guitar will receive the following:

String replacement (please provide us with your preferred strings). Unless you provide me with your string of choice, I will use D'addario strings. Please let me know the guage you use. A charge for the strings will otherwise be applied.
Clean, Condition & Polish fingerboard and frets
Check for loose hardware
Test and play

All guitars will be inspected to determine what is needed from the list above.

Please don’t ask me to repair electronics, cracks, refret the fingerboard or change your pickups etc. Of course if there is a fret that is beyond what can be achieved with my leveling process, than yes…I will address the problem with you before proceeding. If pickup replacement is desired, we can talk about that as well but this is not the focus of what I am embarking on with the Ultimate Setup.

I will however provide the following services if it is determined it is in the best interest of the guitars playability and performance:

* NEW NUT- $20.00 If your existing nut is not allowing for the best performance, tone, tuning stability and in unable to be corrected, a new nut will need to be installed.

* REPLACE TUNERS - $40 and up. Seems like a simple job, but can be fraught with nuanced complications.

* The above charges do not include the cost of materials.
